Philadelphia Phillies story-poll: Suds or studs, the youngster

When they found a salary-dump opportunity for an immediate requirement, the Philadelphia Phillies acquired Michael Young to plug 1 of 5 openings. Has the brain trust solved this problem for 2013?

Young Receives Congratulations for his 3rd-inning Homerun at the Bank on April 9 against the Mets.

There are many factors to consider even after 25 games.

Young has demonstrated his offense, defense, fielding range, base running, leadership and clubhouse compatibility. On the Rangers, he was a cornerstone player, like our shortstop. Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Cole Hamels are the core four of the red pinstripes. In other words, Young joins those other infielders for powwows on the mound during critical points, and he does not appear to be out of place, like Kevin Frandsen did recently.

The current lineup is noticeably Rollins, Utley, Young and Howard with 2 returning sticks for the next 2 holes. Young has averaged over .300 in 2007, 2009 and 2011, which indicates his recent pattern. Including 14 consecutive battles recently, he has a knock in 21 of 26 contests and 5 multi-hit games.

By the Numbers:

With the leather he defends his position adequately, has a strong arm, but he has less range than Placido Polanco and Pedro Feliz. His baseball intelligence also shows up on the base paths. On the other hand, the only locker-room news has been the batting tips he has given to Dom Brown. That stated, Young is the third-base stopgap for Cody Asche, who is at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Young  is a plum so far but there are another 137 contests on the schedule.

With 1 month in the books, what do you anticipate from Young?

Young Smacks an RBI Single during the 6th on April 25 in Queens.

Stud = a solid 2013 ahead

Pass = not predictable

Suds = a beer-league season ahead
